A compact, user friendly instrument and heater tubes that meet the most rigorous standards set by ASTM Subcommittee J. A D02.J subcommittee ballot for a proposed revision to D3241 was conducted prior to the December 2010 Subcommittee J meeting. This ballot included a Research Report and proposed revisions to D3241 for a change in Table 2 and addition of following footnote under Table 2: The following equipment, heater tube and filter kits, manufactured by Falex Corporation, 1020 Airpark Dr., Sugar Grove, IL, 60554-9585, was run through the test protocol in RR:D02-1550 and determined as equivalent to the equipment used to develop the test method. This test is detailed in RR:D02-1714.
Falex Thermal Fouling Tester (FT2) (PDF)
the first instrument designed specifically for the SAE ARP 5996B Evaluation of Coking Propensity of Aviation Lubricants Using the Single Phase Flow Technique Test Method. With the features that users have asked for, it’s the ultimate in ease of use and fully flexible programmability. The FT2 provides convenient, flexible programming along with extensive, customizable safety and shutdown protocols. The FT2’s enhanced hotspot determination and confirmation routines mean the Falex FT2 should be a part of your critical turbine oil analysis laboratory!

Block on Ring Test Machine (PDF)
combines test versatility with operational simplicity. Capable of simulating a variety of field conditions, the Falex Block-on-Ring Test Machine evaluates the friction and wear characteristics of materials and lubricants. Falex SoftWEAR™ Data Acquisition and Control enables straightforward test creation, control, and reporting. ASTM D2714, D2981, D3704, D2509, D2782, and G77.
Falex Timken Extreme Pressure (PDF)
one of the first commercially manufactured and most widely recognized testers for evaluating the load carrying capacity of extreme pressure lubricants. Originally developed in the 1930’s by The Timken Company, this tester evaluates fluid lubricants and greases containing extreme-pressure additives. ASTM D2509 and D2782
Falex MultiSpecimen (PDF)
perhaps the most versatile commercial system for evaluating friction, wear, and abrasion characteristics of materials, coatings, and lubricants. Numerous Standard Test Methods and Application Specific Custom testing programs are possible due to user selected contact geometries, motions, velocities, temperatures, contact pressures, and test specimen materials allow one test apparatus to meet many test specifications and simulate a broad range of field applications. Applications include research and development, quality control, product qualification and the evaluation of physical and performance characteristics of materials, coatings, and lubricants. Test studies and a number of technical publications confirm exceptional correlation with field service.
Falex Four Ball Testers, Wear (PDF) and Extreme Pressure (EP) (PDF)
developed by Shell Oil Company in the 1940s, three ½ inch diameter steel balls are clamped together and covered with the test lubricant. A fourth ½ inch diameter steel ball is pressed into the cavity formed by the three clamped balls for three point contact, and rotated for a set duration. Lubricants are compared using the average size of the scar diameters worn on the three lower clamped balls. ASTM D2266, D2783, D2596, D4172, D5183, IP300, CEC-L-45-A-99.
Falex Dry Sand/Rubber Wheel Abrasion Test (PDF)
the determination of a material’s resistance to scratching abrasion. The Dry Sand/Rubber Wheel Abrasion Tester provides standard control of test loads, sand flow rates, rubber wheels, and reference materials. ASTM G65, G105, and B611.
Falex High Speed - High Temperature Bearing Test (PDF)
versatility and operational simplicity. Test apparatus for the evaluation of greases for extended periods of ball bearing operation under light loads, high speed and elevated temperatures. Independent CRC axially loaded test spindles rotate SAE No. 204 ball bearings at 10,000 revolutions per minute under light loads. Alternate spindle systems are available upon request.
Falex Miller Number Slurry Abrasivity Test (PDF)
used to develop data from which either the relative abrasivity of any slurry (Miller Number), or the response of different materials to the abrasivity of different slurries (SAR Number), can be determined, meeting the requirements of ASTM G75, “Test Method for Determination of Slurry Abrasivity (Miller Number) and Slurry Abrasion Response of Materials (SAR Number).”
Falex Air Jet Erosion Test (PDF)
controls a repeated impact erosion approach involving a small nozzle delivering a stream of gas containing abrasive particles which impact the surface of a test specimen. The amount of weight loss per unit of time represents the erosion or wear rate, providing laboratory scale erosion measurements under a range of conditions. The Test System may be used to rank the erosion resistance of materials, coatings, platings, epoxies, weldments, sprays, paints, and similar products under the controlled conditions of the test.
